Late night Friday, Sept 12, 2008:
With Pappy and Harriet's schedule completed for the evening, the nightly diaspora took place, with many interested folks heading for the back of the Pioneertown Motel for what has become a tradition - that of the Porchstock! As promised at Fi-Stock I, Chris LeRoy brought his acoustic guitar, and joined in with Johnny and the crumbs to make music and merriment.

Flash photos always pick up the dust in the desert air and make it appear to be snowing. It has not snowed when I have been there, but the desert does get some snow occasionally.
Jason Crossman came up with the notion that we could make a "Porchstock Songbook" and print up some lyrics to our favorite singalong songs. In the weeks before the campout, we brainstormed some selections, I tracked down the lyrics, assembled the cover and printed a few up. It came in handy during the late night event. I'll probably do an expanded edition for Campout V, if anyone wants to give me some suggestions for new additions.

Saturday, Sept 13, 2008:
The day trip today took us to the natural beauty of Joshua Tree National Park, home of MONZOGRANITE!

We visited Cap Rock, where Gram Parsons' abrupt funeral pyre was held after he died and road mangler deluxe Phil Kaufman (aka The Human Trombone) stole his body from LAX.
Then I thought I would try out the panorama feature of my camera, and stitch the photos together when I got home. I think it worked out pretty nicely.

Then it was back to the Pitown Motel for the first of the celebrity autograph sessions, this one with The Beachbum. He had his promotional pens, and leather tush covers, but no fake photos this year.

Next up on the schedule of events was the Crumb group photo by Arie. (Of course I shoot back.) Be sure to click on her photo, it links to her gigantic web album, chock full of great images!
Then a little soundchecking, you can tell it's not the gig, cause Sal doesn't sit down during the show! Plus it's daylight and there's no crowd to speak of.

Then for the second autograph session of the day, the Cracker and Camper band members, including Chris LeRoy, were on hand to meet, greet, sign things, pose for photos, and schmooze.
Then it's TAPERS GET READY, cause the music will be starting soon.
A quick self-portrait with Soundman extraordinaire, Casey Martin. . .
And tune in for the next installment featuring the Saturday night musical selections. . .
